NOTE: THIS PORTION OF SITE CREATED FOR A GRADUATE COURSE, SO CONTENT BASED ON MY TEACHING PLACEMENTS IN NC.
In addition to teaching my art classes, I have always been active in many other capacities within my school and community. I have coached varsity cheerleading at the high school level. I have also worked with National Art Honor Society, which was a great way to get to know my high school art students outside of the classroom. I have spent several summers as a faculty member for the Legislator's School for Leadership Development, where I taught a curriculum based on the Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens.
At the elementary level (NC)I have collaborated with community organizations to create activites for students. One such partnership is with Pitt County Community Schools and Recreation. Through this partnership I have been able to offer summer art camps and also begin a cheerleading program for students ages 5-8. I have also worked with Emerge Gallery here in Greenville to offer an after school art program to the second grade students at my school. (08-09)
In addition to these activities, I have worked as a Teaching Assistant for an Art Appreciation course at East Carolina University. 2008-2009 was a busy year for me with teaching, grad school and National Boards but I really enjoyed working with the university students through BlackBoard. Another major part of last year was my participation in the NC-TAN program. In this program, I have attended monthly seminars on Japanese culture. As a result of my participation in this program, I was one of twelve teachers selected to travel to Japan for four weeks this summer through a grant from Fulbright-Hays. It was an amazing experience!
One thing about me is that I actively seek involvement in my school and community, which is evident in the links below.
